Thailand's Plans for a $28BN Canal Across Itself
Thailand is planning to build a canal across the Kra Isthmus. If constructed, this canal will divert traffic away from the Malacca Strait, saving up to 1200 km in travel distance. It could bring an economic boost to Thailand, but at the same time, could upheave Southeast Asia's regional stability and provide China with extended power.

Thailand’s Kra Canal: Will It Impact India’s Maritime Security?
In 1677, King Narai was the first king to suggest a canal through Thailand's Kra Isthmus which would shorten shipping times and costs. Since then, the idea has come up numerous times only to be subsequently shot down again. SNI’s Associate Editor Amitabh P Revi and Video Journalist Prateek Suri travelled to Bangkok and along the route of the proposed Kra-Canal to find out whether the time for this 341-year-old idea had finally come.

Longtail Boats Thailand's Maritime Heri

Longtail boats have been used for generations by Thai fishermen and locals for various purposes, including transportation, fishing, and as a means of getting around the numerous islands and coastal areas of Thailand. They are particularly prevalent in regions like Phuket, Krabi, and the Andaman Sea.
The construction of these boats involves skilled craftsmanship, usually by local boat builders who utilize traditional techniques passed down through generations. They are often made from hardwoods like teak and are meticulously ...

As this colossal endeavour charts a new trade route, bypassing Singapore's port, the age-old maritime giant faces an uncertain future. What an INCREDIBLE year!
2023 has been an absolute whirlwind of highlights!
✨ Back-to-back Super Yacht refits in both our Bangkok and Phuket shipyards.
✈️ Finally, we were able to spread our wings again and venture internationally, providing our air hygiene and waste water management services to our clients across Southeast Asia.
🤝 We've forged powerful partnerships with industry giants like EVAC, Cathelco, HEM Water Makers, and Ratanachai Shipyard, expanding our services and capabilities.
⛵ Our Navtec service centre has been booming (pun intended!) with activity, especially during the thrilling Kings Cup in Phuket.
🚀And let's not forget our incredible team, which is growing stronger than ever with many new professional's joining the Clearvac family.
We would like to thank all our clients for entrusting Clearvac to take care of their amazing vessels, and we look forward to working with you all again soon.
Looking forward to 2024, with some big announcements coming soon!
Happy sailing everyone!

Export and import are integral parts of the world economy and container shipping business plays a key role in it.
In this video we have explained a very important question, i.e., how container shipping works?
The container shipping transport is a complex procedure, full of checks and procedures, to ensure that shipping containers reach its destination on time without getting lost in the crowd of thousands of containers sailing out on ships at the high seas.
This video explains the basics of how container shipping works and provides details on the journey of a container from its point of origin to its destination.

In the first of a two-part series from Thailand, SNI explores why the canal has not taken off so far, what it means for the people along its route, for Thailand, Asia and the World, who would pay for it, how it would impact maritime trade and security and where it would place India, China and America's navies. In Part I, we look at the costs and benefits it would bring and whether a sea-bridge between the Indian and Pacific Oceans will join the world's other famous canals — the Suez and Panama canals to change maritime history.
Coming soon, in Part II, the SNI team travels along the proposed Route 9A, from the western coast of Thailand and the Andaman Sea to the eastern coast off the Gulf of Thailand to gauge what the environmental impact could be and whether the project could endanger the country's integrity, divide it in two and fuel the southern insurgency.
Already, the push to build the canal is building up. In November, months before the elections scheduled in February 24, 2019, Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered the National Security Council and the country’s top economic planning body — the National Economic and Social Development Board(NESDB) to look into the feasibility of the canal. Thai King Rama X-Maha Vajiralongkorn is expected to be coronated after the polls, and a green signal from him is the push the canal's supporters are looking for.

Thailand's longtail boats are iconic and integral to the country's maritime heritage. These traditional wooden vessels are characterized by their long, slender design and a prominent engine mounted on a pivot, often resembling a tail, hence the name "longtail boats."
They are often made from hardwoods like teak and are meticulously crafted to withstand the demands of the sea.
One distinguishing feature of longtail boats is their engine setup. They typically use a converted car or truck engine attached to a long driveshaft, with the propeller at the end of the shaft. This setup allows the boat operator to pivot the engine, altering the direction of the boat's propulsion. Despite being noisy and emitting exhaust, these engines provide the necessary power to navigate shallow waters and swiftly maneuver around coastal areas.
Longtail boats are not just utilitarian; they have become a symbol of Thailand's coastal beauty and are frequently used for tourism purposes. Many tourists are drawn to the experience of riding in these colorful, open-air boats, exploring the stunning limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and hidden coves that Thailand's coastlines offer.
However, as modernization and technological advancements progress, there are concerns about the sustainability and preservation of these traditional boats. Factors like environmental impact, fuel efficiency, and changing regulations pose challenges to the continued use of longtail boats in their traditional form.
Efforts are being made to balance preserving the heritage of these boats while addressing concerns about their impact. Some initiatives focus on using eco-friendly engines or alternative propulsion methods, aiming to maintain the cultural significance of longtail boats while reducing their environmental footprint.
Overall, Thailand's longtail boats hold a significant place in the country's maritime heritage, embodying a blend of tradition, craftsmanship, and practicality that continues to capture the imagination of both locals and visitors alike.

Billions of barrels of oil and gas are produced in these oil refineries and gas wells to meet the energy demands of the world's population.
The oil industry is the center of the world's economy, and even a slight change in crude oil prices can have a significant impact on all countries.
But have you ever wondered about the lifestyle and daily routine of the people who live and work on offshore oil rigs?
While you may have heard that life on these amazing floating platforms is fascinating, there are several things you might not know.
First of all, it's important to note that life on an oil rig is not luxurious. In fact, it's a place where people's lives are at stake every day they work.
Although this may sound a bit exaggerated, the truth is that life and work on offshore oil rigs are both extremely challenging and unsafe.
Let's take a look at the extreme daily routine of a worker on an offshore oil rig, This is Why Offshore Oil Rig Workers Earn So much Money

SATTAHIP, Thailand (NNS) - The U.S. Navy and maritime forces from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will begin the first ASEAN-U.S. Maritime Exercise (AUMX) with opening ceremonies at Sattahip Naval Base, Thailand Sept. 2.
Co-led by the U.S. and Royal Thai navies, AUMX will consist of pre-sail activities in Thailand, Singapore and Brunei, followed by a sea phase in international waters in Southeast Asia, including the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea. The exercise will conclude in Singapore.
In all, AUMX includes eight warships and four aircraft from seven countries, and more than a thousand personnel representing all ten ASEAN member states and the United States.
"Our forces sail together during exercises throughout the year and have done so for decades," said Vice Adm. Phil Sawyer, commander, U.S. 7th Fleet. "AUMX provides a new multilateral venue to work together on shared maritime security priorities in the region."
AUMX promotes shared commitments to maritime partnerships, security and stability in Southeast Asia. Participating nations include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.

With elections in February 2019 and the new monarch Maha Vajiralongkorn’s coronation soon after, has this 341-year-old idea’s time finally come? Will King Rama X choose the Thai-Kra Canal to be his legacy project? It’s an answer that can change not only global maritime routes but also world history. In the second and last part of video reports, SNI's team of @amitabhprevi and @prtksuri travel along the proposed Route 9 A. They meet local fishermen, weavers, villagers and school-teachers to gauge the response to the push for a short-cut between the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
The issues, of dividing Thailand, fuelling the southern insurgency, impacting the economy, ecology and lifestyles, domestic and international politics-all come up on the way from the western coast near Krabi to the eastern sea-board near Songhkla. From the entrance-exit points on the Andaman Sea to the Gulf of Thailand, SNI reports on whether the push for the canal from influential circles in Bangkok has created any waves on the ground, along the proposed route.
